The History of Black Writing Novel Corpus is a defined collection within PhiloLogic that represents a collaboration between the Textual Optics Lab at the University of Chicago and the History of Black Writing (HBW).One outcome of HBW's efforts has been the collection of nearly 7,000 well-known and lesser-known novels by African American writers, which are in the process of being digitized. From the full HBW Novel Corpus, 2,172 digitized novels are available in a database within PhiloLogic, titled the “HBW Novel Corpus.” Because many of these novels are still under copyright, the majority are only accessible to Black Book Interactive Project (BBIP) Scholar Program participants and select scholars. Fifty-five titles from the History of Black Writing Novel Corpus are available to the public.
